Niki and I love RVing our beautiful USA. When we make
a stop in new places, one question we always ask
locals is "What are the special places you
like to show family and friends when
they come to visit?"

Safety Harbor has one of these incredibly special places and it is called Waterfront Park - a 13-acre area on the waterfront of Old Tampa Bay with many special features.

We have visited this Park many times and the photos are from a range of our visits. You will not be disappointed, whether it’s to see a perfect sunrise over Old Tampa Bay or to visit the twinkling marina lights and view the night scene from the long city pier.

During the day you might like to fish along the Veterans Memorial Marina area or sit at a picnic table or bench along the paved paths and watch the activity on the lake and elsewhere.

There is a lakeside-type beach area where the youngsters can safely splash in the water (and it’s definitely inviting for us oldsters as well!) There are shady tables for your picnic, or to read a book or just daydream the day away. (You may have noticed we have found many such places for just such serious daydreaming in our beautiful County of Pinellas?)

If you enjoy walking and viewing Nature and the landscape then continue North on the paved path and take the boardwalk for some stunning views of the Bay, the Pier and life among the mangroves (you may even spot a Horseshoe Crab or other sea and bird life).

The Boardwalk can begin, end or continue a loop path on North Bayshore Drive.
Turn left (or South) on Bayshore and continue the loop, finding that the path continues just before Jefferson Street to circle back to the waterfront area. This Jefferson Street extension beside the Spa is also a good place to park if the main Waterfront Park parking area is full.

Turning North on Bayshore from the Boardwalk will lead to Philippe Park. (It is a passable Park entry for walkers and bikers but North Bayshore Drive is a dead end for automobiles.) The docks and manicured lawns and flower gardens you will see leading to the water makes for an enjoyable stroll itself.

It is a short walk back to Main Street from Waterfront Park and you will find many unique shops and friendly restaurants to explore.

Waterfront Park is wheelchair accessible for the most part and a place that everyone should visit and enjoy. It is all free and there are many activities that take place there during a normal year including the good old 4th of July parade and festivities.

We invite you to leave your own thoughts and comments about this Park here as well as a favorite photo or two for posterity if you would like. We have walked and photographed most ot the towns and cities in Pinellas and may post these walking tours at another time if there is an interest,
