Clymer Park and Art Walk
5501 27th Avenue S
Gulfport, FL

When was the last time you visited a "Food Forest"? We had not either until we visited Clymer Park in Gulfport. We are finding that you never know what interesting things you might discover next in Gulfport. It is truly a fun place in many respects.

But we digress. Situated between two one-way streets leading into and away from Gulfport (Beach Boulevard South) are three blocks of Park, Art, and that Food Forest for all to enjoy. A level, paved sidewalk meanders down and through all three blocks.

There is parking at the South end at the Catherine A. Hickman Theatre of Gulfport or the Senior Center but we found that many just park to the edge of one of the one-way streets as we did.

You will know you have arrived when you spot the iconic, pop art sign pointing to Gulfport and its Historic Waterfront. (Love that sign!) The first part is a park setting with a gazebo and shady benches for sitting and just enjoying the surroundings.

The Art Walk and Food Forest both begin in the second block. There are a number of thoughtful art pieces from local artists with benches at each where one might sit and contemplate the artist's intentions. They each have something to say to those who care to listen.

The signage throughout explains the Food Forest and each individual ecosystem of plants supporting each other in groupings that provide food just as much larger forest ecosystems do.

Much of the work is done or donated by community members. There is a small reference library with a table and chairs nearby where anyone can learn more about the concepts.

This unique park is constantly developing and well worth a visit..
