Clam Bayou Nature Park
3120 Miriam St S.
Gulfport

Clam Bayou is an ongoing, living science
project that visitors can watch as plans are
carried out. It’s an important project for the
surrounding sea and animal life as well as
the vegetation important to
maintaining the area.

The exact Park address is difficult to pinpoint on our GPS, so we use the address of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary building that also calls the park home. It also provides a good place to park and begin a trail loop through and around the park.

The Park entrance road runs beside the channel leading to and from the Gulfport Marina. You’ll see all types of boats coming and going all day long.

There are many places to access the trails, but we chose to begin along the front of the Auxiliary building to enjoy the stunning views of Boca Ciega Bay. From there we enter the crushed shell paths that wind through the mangroves with boardwalk and bridges leading out onto the Bayou in different places.

The trail is not exceptionally long or difficult. We always like to take our time to see what we might find. Often it is fishermen and women who are always a congenial group of sportsmen and women. We did speak with some local neighbors who said that eagles are known to nest up on the platform at certain time of the year.

Access in front of the Auxiliary building is paved and suitable for walkers and wheelchairs but the rest of the park paths would be troublesome for small wheels.

This is a safe, beautiful Park and well worth your visit.

"Clam Bayou Nature Park Formerly known as Osgood Point is located south of 29th Avenue South, on Miriam Street. It plays an important role in the Clam Bayou Estuary of Boca Ciega Bay. This nature park/estuary provides several environments: from the upland natural vegetation, marsh and mangrove forests to the deeper waters of Boca Ciega Bay. These areas provide habitat and food to a variety of species such as fiddler crabs, clams, wading birds, small animals, dolphins, and manatees; to name a few. Some restoration projects for Clam Bayou have been completed in Gulfport and St. Petersburg and more are planned. Come escape the urban crowds and enjoy a scenic stroll around the treasures of nature."
