Coachman Ridge Park
1400 Old Coachman Rd.
Clearwater

Coachman Ridge Park is one of the newer
parks in Clearwater. It is located right on
the Ream-Wilson Trail and parking is
available on both Old Coachman Road
and also behind The Long Center on
Belcher Road which backs up to
the Park. Both have paved access
to the loop that surrounds
the Park.

Part of the beauty is the wide and fairly level, black-top path around the Park making it ideal for wheelchairs and walkers to navigate. At the Park’s center is a retention pond which is often dry but capable of holding plenty of water in the rainy season as well as numerous birds. A shortcut across this pond is via a sturdy boardwalk bridge.

We will start our loop at the Coachman Road parking lot beside the fenced in children’s play area. Walking South we will pass the tennis and basketball courts which also has a handball court attached.

Turning right, or northward, we will be on the Ream Wilson Trail. Had we turned South we could have followed the trail all the way to Safety Harbor.

This Western edge of the loop follows Alligator Creek, the train tracks and you will pass the trestle and the unique home behind it. There are flowers along the creek bank and who knows you might even spot a soft-shell turtle in your path. It might be good to mention that softshell turtles can be quite aggressive! They have strong jaws and with their long neck they can reach most parts of their bodies. Give them space.

Farther along the loop you will note the steel bridges crossing the Creek and paths going to The Long Center and Belcher Road.

You can finish the loop by turning back South along Coachman Road, returning to the parking lot and playground.

It is an enjoyable walk but not the shadiest so plan your adventure during the cooler periods of the day.
