John S. Taylor Park just happens to be over 156 acres of "Special" in our book! Special, as we define it, includes plenty of free parking, easy access for bikers right off the Pinellas Trail and always plenty to see and enjoy. . .

It includes a 1.8-mile trail around a 53-acre freshwater lake. Some of this multi-use trail is paved and other parts are crushed shells. The paved parts offer some great views for the wheelchair and walker user.

Taylor Lake has a launch site for boats, canoes and kayaks (no motors allowed) and great possibilities - we are told - for our bass fishing friends. If you are a birdwatcher, you will find many types of birds both on the lake and along the shoreline as well as turtles and maybe even a gator sighting or two or more! Maybe you would like to bring your folding chair, your lunch and a book and just chill, relaxing in the shade taking in a great view. This is a special place for doing it.

On the West side of the lake is a beautiful and challenging disc golf course. Never played or maybe puzzled by what it might be? We have found that disc golfers are a friendly, congenial group that will be happy to show you the ropes and welcome you into this low impact sport that is as important and fun to so many as golf is to others.

Other amenities include, seven picnic shelters with grills to reserve, other picnic tables and benches here and there, two children's play areas, exercise stations and a ball field.

We have left the best (in our humble opinion) for last mention - the island!

The island is on the Northeast side of the lake, and you gain access across a wooden bridge. Walk to the end and spend some quality time at the picnic table just enjoying the day and your surroundings. We are photographers and storytellers so we are always looking for those special sights and places that wow us and we can pass along for you to enjoy as well.
We think you will really enjoy your visit to John S. Taylor Park in Largo.
