This week we travel toward the Southern end of Pinellas County into St. Petersburg. Walter Fuller Park is a beautifully maintained 133-acre campus offering all manner of activities for the public to enjoy – tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, pickleball courts and a recreation center with a beautiful pool open to the public during certain hours each day for a nominal fee.

Today our emphasis is on the paved, walking, hiking, biking trail around the lake.

There is a nearly two mile paved surface for walking around the perimeter of the park. Distance is measured beginning in front of the pool. Our interest and emphasis today is on the nearly ¾ mile paved walking and biking  path around the lake. It’s not a strenuous walk and the lake is home to all manner of waterfowl and other bird life to see, enjoy and maybe photograph. I sometimes bring a camp chair and find a shady spot to just sit and watch the comings and goings of the birds. There are some beautiful landscape features and wistful sculptures of youth along the paths very popular with the youngsters.

See the map link we’ve included. We suggest parking near the right side of the pool complex for easy access to the walkways. It’s really not difficult to travel to and not in a crowded area. We think it is well worth a visit wherever you may be coming from.

It’s a Pinellas Fact!
“The Name Pinellas is derived from the Spanish words Punta Pinal meaning point of pines. It was an accurate description for this area when it was discovered by Panfilo de Narvaez in 1528, 36 years after Columbus arrived in the Caribbean and 37 years before the founding of the city of St. Augustine.”
